A production by PIEMONTE DAL VIVO - REGION OF PIEDMONT
A half-open window, and above the roof-tops thousands of white clouds, stretching as far as the enchanted eye can see: beyond the paternal profile of the mountains, beyond the hills spread out along their flanks, there where the piazzas become vines, castles, Alpine cottages, lakes or mirror-like rice-fields. Under that whirl like sails living in the sky, a wind arrives: the workshop of transformations opens up, and the magic of art always surprises you, like a wine that melts the tongue to thoughts. From the groove which sparks from electronic music to a traditional dance, from the Chalet Allemande's studio to the National Cinema Museum, from the drama festivals in royal palaces to old-time country gatherings, heaven and earth almost meet, encircling hours filled with dreams. And even though - as the poet Cesare Pavese wrote - the only thing missing's a dazzling sea, in this Piedmont of past, present and future, every house seems at times to be a ship about to set sail and every street is perhaps a small port.
3 shows, 10 festivals, 4 directors, 23 actors, 8 dancers, 2 choreographers, 8 musicians
3 composers, 1 singer, 3 writers and 4 filmmakers
Over the course of the years Piemonte dal Vivo has developed and nurtured its focus on live events, as can be seen from its participation in international festivals, or the early days of press conferences enlivened by moments from live shows, or the greatly anticipated regional Liveday dates - veritable events in which music, theatre, dance and film take over stages, castles, Savoy palaces, piazzas, museums, former industrial structures, parks and sacred mountains. These are the ideals and defining themes from which the great challenge of Piemonte dal Vivo's tenth anniversary has sprung: the staging, unheard-of for a public authority, of the production The only thing missing's a dazzling sea. From the festivals which belong to the network, ten have given life to the project, a live show composed of three acts (with a fourth planned for 2008). Writers, actors, filmmakers, dancers, directors and musicians have constructed a dialogue along interdisciplinary lines, connecting the languages of theatre, music, cinema and dance, and finding a common perspective in the magic of art.
If putting on a show is a little like going on a journey, you can find the travel journal of the work in progress in a blog (www.pdvonstage.org), which recounts the encounters which have taken place, the unexpected detours and stops made which are gradually shaping the pace of this trip.
